flashback..
Reading about my niece growing up and getting ready for school gave me an unexpected memory..
I remember in primary school (hmm.. i think in secondary school too..) we'd get these book lists and we had to go to the school bookshop to get our textbooks before the school year started.. there would always be extra workbooks on sale and i dunno why i'd ask mum to get them.. (not like i actually knew the answers to standard 6 stuff when i was in standard 5 -.- maybe i just liked buying stuff)
Anyway..i guess it just brought back memories of mum taking me to school..how everything seemed so big.. coz i remember when i went back to primary school everything seemed incredibly tiny..(especially the level of the sinks in the toilet..) how the books smelt and felt..our desks with the "longkang" for pencils..having a locker was nice :) .. the sticky icky smell of the canteen..and how it kinda never felt really clean..the blue lunch trays with food in compartments.. how friday was free ice cream day.. how we played during lunchtime.. and of course there was young stupidity as well.. those "i friend you, i don't friend you" phases amongst other things.. there were days when i'd dread going to school.. but at the end of it all i did miss it..
it's the first time i'm watching someone grow up.. watching someone go through the phases of life that i'd once been through.. hoping that she won't get bullied (or she won't bully anyone :p ) ..hoping she will learn lotsa good stuff and less of the bad stuff (SOME bad stuff is definitely going to appear..) .. it's pretty incredible (to me at least) that in about 6 years time she'll be off to secondary school...!! time just seems to be zooming by ...
